Act1 scene2

In this scene, Duncan, Malcolm, Donaldbain and Lennox are talking to a dying soldier. Duncan requests who he is and gets a reply of an injured sergeant. After a while of dialogue, the sergeant comes to a conclusion that Macbeth deserves the name of ‘brave’. The sergeant is then swapped out of the scene for Ross.

Why do you think we are introduced to some of Macbeth’s personality traits before we meet him? What does the Sergeant tell us that we should pay particular attention to? Why?
